About Us

Dedicated to Academic and Athletic Excellence

Since 1988, the Academic Program for Gifted Athletes (APGA) has been offered at Northview Heights Secondary School. There are currently over 70 gifted athletes enrolled in the APGA program representing 19 different sports.

The program is dedicated to assisting athletes of provincial, national and international caliber to balance their rigorous training and competition schedules with their schooling.

Our founding APGA program director was Cari Baycroft who was instrumental in developing and bringing the APGA program to Northview. After many years of dedicated service, Cari is enjoying her well deserved retirement.

Connie Halket also was program director for many years and a valued teacher within the APGA program. I count it a privilege to have worked with such outstanding role models. The athletes have had wonderful support from these leaders over the years.

As a teacher within APGA for many years, I can also praise the many support staff that we have teaching our APGA specialty credit courses. Many parents have been involved in our school council and contributed with their volunteer time supporting the athletes and the APGA program. Like our athletes, many have come and gone over the years. Each has contributed to the success of our program and to the athletes. The reward is the athletic achievements and the scholarships earned from universities.

Our staff, parents and athletes have demonstrated... "a dedication to academic and athletic excellence". I invite anyone interested in the APGA program to contact us and become part of the team and its success.
